I am very excited to begin my third year as a Bulldog! I teach 3rd grade, what some people might call the most important year of the elementary career! I have students from all different backgrounds and learning levels and my goal is to ensure that they all have an environment which is conducive to their specific learning style and needs.
Every morning to start our day, our students gather for Morning Meeting.
Morning meeting is the time where we come together as a class to greet, share and build classroom relationships. We began Morning Meeting, with fidelity, last year. Each classroom from Kindergarten through 5th grade participates in Morning Meeting. It is a part of the CMS Personalized Digital Learning initiative that focuses on building up and catering to the Whole Child. This a time where we as teachers get to know each student on a personal level, help build classroom relationships and help the students to form positive character traits to establish a warm and friendly classroom community and environment.
My Project
Each morning after the final morning bell rings, all classes in the entire school gather for Morning Meeting. My class is called to the circle by a student leader. Once everyone is settled they review our Morning Meeting norms. Then they get to vote on which greeting they will use to greet each other for the day. After the greeting has been selected and carried out, it is share time. Students get to share a story from the weekend or their answer to a "would you rather" question or what they are most thankful for. Then we get to the main part of our morning meeting time; our lesson of the morning. We focus mostly on character and relationship building. We discuss topics from Growth Mindset to feelings to individuality to problem solving.
What better way to learn about these topics than to read a book about them?
These children's books about these topics will help them relate to the characters in the stories. We use these stories to help them understand the importance of these topics and lead into points of discussion that we can have together as a class. Then after we read the book together, the book will be put into the classroom library for them to read and revisit as they choose.
