Books for Brighter Futures: a Home Library for Every Student

My Project

The lack of access to books at home is one of the biggest barriers to a child's success in reading and learning. Without books to read outside of school, many of my students are missing out on opportunities to develop crucial literacy skills. Research shows that children with books at home become better readers and perform better in school. Sadly, in low-income households, there are often fewer than 1 book for every 300 children, compared to 13 or more books per child in higher-income homes. This gap is something we can help close.

For low-income students, having a personal library at home can be life-changing.

That’s why I am starting this project to buy books for my students, so each child can take books home. When students have books they can call their own, they get excited about reading, learn new words, and start to love learning. For some of my students, this may be the very first time they’ve had their own book!

With your help, we can give my students the gift of reading and set them up for success. Every book we provide will open a new world for them, helping them to grow both in school and in life.
