My students need 24 individual copies of the paperback book, "Because of Winn-Dixie".
Can you hear the excited hum of readers? The buzzing of busy writers? That's the sound of Reading Workshop each day. Common Core standards ask us to be able to read and comprehend texts within our grade level text complexity band. Working toward this goal is the best part of our day!
My elementary school is part of a large, rural district in Kentucky.
Our state testing ranks our school as proficient, but we continue to seek ways to help our students achieve at higher levels and aspire to become ranked as distinguished. We are committed to providing all of our students a top-notch academic experience that will deliver a strong educational foundation. Our class is filled with 24, third grade students that are eager and excited to learn. These Braves LOVE reading, writing, and communicating with others!
Everybody loves a good read aloud, but you just can't beat having the book in your own hands. The books, Because of Winn-Dixie, will be used by students to read the text closely, as required by our standards. This title is specifically noted as an exemplar text for our grade level text complexity band. Students will be able to read and reread the book for different purposes. Having an individual copy of the book available to each student allows our readers to refer directly to the text when talking or writing about it. This empowers readers to dig deeply into the text and allows them to interact with it. That's much more fun than a read aloud!
We are committed to helping children become college and career ready.
Meeting grade level reading requirements is a goal that will pave the way for this to happen. Help us put books in the hands of our readers.
