Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I tell the children in my class that reading is the most important tool they need to know how to use. Reading to the children in my class everyday shows them how important it can be. I try to discuss with the children that hammers and even computers are important too, but reading is the tool for there future. If you don't know how to read, or more importantly, don't have a love of reading, succeeding in the future may be difficult. I teach Head Start (pre-K) in a school in Chicago. There is a very large Hispanic population in the community . I am learning to speak Spanish which helps, but more importantly I have no Spanish language children's books. I read a lot of books and most of them are written in English, but most of the Spanish speaking students don't understand. I would really like to be able to read books in Spanish so that the Hispanic children can feel important as well. I would like to fill the classroom library with Spanish language children's books. It is important for all children in my class to feel involved, and with the help of Spanish language books I know I can help them begin to develop a love of books.
