This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the best students! I know each teacher feels this way, but I truly do about my class. I work at a Title I school which means my students are from low-income households. They do not always have a supportive and safe home environment. They face many hardships at a young age. Most of our students come to school hungry and with very little rest.

Although they face these hardships, my students are the most resilient 3rd graders I know!

They come to school every day and try their best in all content areas. They collaborate, use technology, and think critically to reach their goals of becoming grade level students. I am proud to be their teacher and look forward to expanding their minds daily.

My Project

Our class is growing its classroom library daily. We have noticed that we never have enough books to read. During reading workshop I state to my students that to get better at read we need to practice everyday! Having access to more book titles would help my students in this journey to becoming better readers. Some titles that I am asking for such as Stella Writes an Opinion, Grandma's Purse, and A Squiggly Story are perfect books for me to use during whole group instruction for our mini-lesson.

My students deserve many books because they enjoy reading and need exposure to more to grow as readers!

These books will not only be able available for kids to read during readers workshop, which is our designated time to read, but they will also be able to gather ideas to become writers. They will be used daily and help students become stronger readers and writers. They will know the importance of books and as we grow our library they will be growing their love for reading!
