My Students

I currently teach a fully self-contained special education class in a Title I elementary school in Hilo, Hawaii. I have a range of students from kindergarten to fifth grade with all different sorts of disabilities, ranging from genetic disorders, autism, cerebral palsy, and intellectually disabled.

In my fully self-contained and medically fragile classroom, I want the students to be able to have a variety of reading materials that fulfill their sensory and academic needs.

We try to focus on life skills, healthy life styles and a positive learning environment.

My Project

For my most recent project, I am requesting to get a variety of books for my students. I have a range of grade levels and a range of all sorts of learners and I would like to expand my classroom library.

Having a variety of books, especially sensory books will help captivate my autistic students.

The books that I am requesting are some of my favorite books growing up and I am hoping they will become my student's favorites also. Reading daily is a very important part of our day. We like to do story boards and art projects based on the books we read.
