My Students

Students want to be successful in life. They have different ideas about success, different levels of confidence in their own ability to become successful, and different levels of resources available to help them get to their goal. This often is not expected in Advanced Placement courses, but it is. We are a Title 1 school that wants to do all it can to close any achievement gaps. This project will keep students from passing over a chance to learn because they do not have an extra fifteen to twenty dollars for a book.

My Project

They are kids who are looking to earn college credit while still in high school. The reading level of these students is higher than that of most students and they can learn a great deal from independent reading. While most AP students come from backgrounds that have ample financial resources some simply do not. It is a terrible thing to see a student who has the capability to learn at an advanced rate but not register for the classes because of a lack of funds to buy a couple of extra books. That is where you come into play.

Advanced Placement students work very hard during the school year to prepare for an exam that allows them to earn college credit while in high school.

Part of that work includes selecting a current book to read about how geography plays a role in the matters of the world. Most of the students can pop into a book store or website and purchase a book for this work, but some do not.
