My students need a classroom library that reflects not only their world, in diverse cultures, communities, and races, but worlds outside of their own. This will foster empathy, social justice, and a deeper connection to reading.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic, collaborative, and curious! They love to create and build knowledge with hands-on and real life experiences. I am excited to foster a community within the classroom where students in both second and third grade use teamwork and respect to learn from one another and grow to their greatest ability this year. Each scholar will be able to reach their goals through various learning strategies, academic choice, and flexible seating.
In this multi-age classroom, my scholars will not be limited by their given grade level, but instead soar to their great, individual potential.
They will continuously be provided opportunities to set goals, self reflect on what makes them most successful, and what they can control as a scholar. This will be a room where scholars champion one another, learn through engagement, and master through a safe environment to adapt through tries and mistakes.
My Project
These books reflect many different pockets of the world. Some directly to what my students experience, fulfilling one role of stories where we can identify with characters, work through experiences, and prepare for what is to come. Other books on this list will open their eyes to worlds outside of their own, creating a sense of empathy and respect for different backgrounds, cultures, races, and experiences. The books in the list range in Lexile levels and cultures, hopefully creating a space of familiarity and curiosity for every reader in my room.
If the world doesn't look like duplicates of ourselves, how can a classroom library be limited to that?
If there's never a connection in a story, how do we grow connection with others?
