My students need 25 copies (class set) of 'The Boy in the Striped Pajamas'.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Potter's classroom raised $286

I am an 8th grade English teacher in a educationally challenged, low income, teeny tiny, rural town in Virginia.
The students that I currently teach are an offspring of parents who never had the opportunity to go to school due to the fact that, in the past, the school systems shut down when Brown vs. Board of Education was passed.
Based on their generational past many of my students do not have any desire for education instilled in them. Because of this I have to work hard to find ways to "hook" and interest my students in my class.
I learned from other teachers that, as 6th graders, students are taken to the Holocaust Museum and are always enthralled. As 7th graders, students learn about WWII in history and read "The Diary of Anne Frank" and are STILL enthralled. Many of my students come to me in the 8th grade and ask me if we can read "Anne Frank" again. However, I found an even better way to branch off from their enthrallment in this era of history (Which I think they can relate to because it mirrors their parents/grandparents past in a variety of ways).
I feel that I can fuel this enthrallment in this era by continuing in the same vein as "Anne Frank" and having them read "The Boy in the Striped Pajamas."
What is so wonderful about this book is that I can use it for ALL my classes. It is written in simplistic language so ALL my levels of readers will be able to comprehend it, but it is complex enough that my advanced students will be challenged by being able to do more in-depth analysis of the book.
I am so excited about the possibilities introducing this book into my classroom! Sadly, my school does not have the funds to help me buy a class set of this book.
Your contribution will make it possible to instill in my students an ability to further their interest in, and finally enjoy, an ACADEMIC subject which doesn't come along in my career very often.
