Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

As a first grade teacher I know that the best way to achieve reading success in the early academic years is to foster a love of reading. The best way I can help my students is to provide plenty of books for them to read in the classroom. However, not just any books will do. I would like to have books at their specific reading level, books that build on their natural curiosity and leave them with the desire to read more. One of my hopes this year is that I can somehow build a classroom library with non-fiction, multi-leveled books. These books would be available for the students to read not only in the classroom, but also as part of my Home Reading Program. Many of my students do not have any books at home. Each day they get to take a book home at their level to read. Hopefully by fostering a love of reading, maybe my students will be more inclined to read their favorite book instead of watching their favorite television show.
