Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I have the privilege of teaching in a state that still allows for conversations around race, gender identity, sexual orientation, and more! It's through these diverse discussions that students not only gain the knowledge they need to be happy, healthy humans but also learn empathy and compassion for those that are different than them.

It's imperative that we provide children with a variety of age-appropriate books that not only are reflections of their own identities and families (mirrors) but also provide them with perspectives and knowledge about people different from them (windows).

I want ALL of my students to feel seen and understood, regardless of their identity. Building a diverse classroom library, including books about gender and sexual identity, allows me to do just that!
