This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a bright, inquisitive, and kind group of third graders. Due to recent global events, they need lots of small groups, hands-on active time. They love to create and tell stories. They love to read and be read to. They are quickly learning to work together, which is a vital skill in our world.
My children work in small groups and independently throughout the day.
This helps them learn to focus on and improve self-control issues. Small group activities that let us get up and move help our ADHD tendencies stay under control. We need real reasons to move and stretch. My students need items that will support their concentration in our learning activities.
My students grow in all areas by practicing and playing together. Due to COVID-19 needs, we will be starting our year together in distance learning. This means our needs have changed drastically!
My Project
Third graders are learning to become authors. They are learning about character development, word choice and story lines.
Reading books by strong writers helps us become strong writers.
These two authors, Patricia Polacco and Patricia Reilly Giff are terrific role models for us. They tell realistic stories that teach lessons but hold our interest with humor. Patricia Polacco starts her stories in her own life. She tells autobiographical stories that help us understand how characters interact. These stories will help us tell our own stories. They will help us interact more positively with our own families. They will help us grow!
