My Project
Adding books by Asian American authors will help enrich our 6th-grade classroom library with diverse perspectives and meaningful stories. These books introduce themes of identity, heritage, and resilience, encouraging students to connect with different experiences and develop empathy.
Kelly Yang and Veera Hiranandani are two authors whose works bring these themes to life.
Titles such as Front Desk, Finally Seen, New From Here, The Night Diary, and Amil and the After explore real-world challenges like immigration, self-discovery, and cultural heritage. Their writing makes these topics engaging and accessible for young readers, sparking important discussions.
Expanding our library with these books creates an inclusive environment where students see themselves in literature while gaining insight into other backgrounds. Representation fosters curiosity, empathy, and a lifelong love for reading.
