My Project

Pre-K students are allowed to come to the library for the very first time!!! With Books, Builds & Beyond Mini Makers Space STEM experiences will be brought into the library for all grade levels. I hope to create an engaging environment where primary students see themselves not only as readers, but also as creators, designers, engineers, innovators, and problem-solvers.

The ultimate vision is to transform a portion of the library into a space where books become the starting point for exploration, imagination, and innovation.

This Mini Makers Space can provide meaningful, hands-on learning centers that make literacy and STEM exciting, accessible, and memorable for our youngest learners.

Round mats create a comfortable, defined learning space for story time, read alouds, library instruction, and whole-group STEM activities while also providing students with a designated space to gather, listen, and participate. Lava tiles will help teach primary students about spatial awareness, body positioning, sequencing, and positive library routines by teaching students how to recognize and maintain personal space while lining up to check out books. Construction blocks provide students with opportunities to design, construct and engage in imaginative STEM play by building life-sized structures, forts, towers, buildings, and bridges. Students will learn through hands on experimentation as they determine how to make structures stable, how different shapes work together, and how to modify a design when it does not work as planned. Toddler building blocks develop foundational skills through hands on construction and collaborative problem solving providing young students with an opportunity to develop fine motor coordination, hand strength, balance, pattern recognition, and mathematical thinking.

Community helper costumes connect imaginative play with literacy, nonfiction reading and real-world learning providing students with opportunities to engage in purposeful dramatic play while exploring nonfiction texts about careers, occupations, and people who serve their communities.
