Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My educational philosophy is that every child deserves a quality education, regardless of where he or she grows up. I work in the poorest Congressional district in the country, and our school's budget is not enough for the needs of our students. I teach 8th grade English-Language Arts in a small middle school.
My students are hard-working, enthusiastic, and super smart - they just need your help to make sure they get the kind of education they deserve.
As middle school students, they are working hard to get into the best high schools in New York City. We, their teachers, are working hard to make sure they have all the tools they need to get there.
My Project
Many of my students are voracious readers because we have made reading a central component of our classroom. They run through my classroom library books extremely quickly. Many students have read nearly all of the books I currently have.
Adding new books to our classroom library would greatly invigorate my students and their love for reading.
Reading gives them a window into new worlds and increases their knowledge base. It also is an enjoyable activity they love doing. They would love to get new books to add to our collection. We read every day after lunch for 25 minutes, they read independently at different points during the day, and they are supposed to read at least 25 minutes for homework. These books will get read and be put on requested lists as soon as they arrive in our classroom library!
With your help, we can restock our classroom library, thereby allowing my students to read new books and enabling me to foster their love of learning.
