Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are wonderful, expressive, creative individuals, who come from a variety of home environments. The students in my classroom are mostly second language learners, coming to school with very little exposure to the English language. Our school population is mostly Latino, ESL, low-income students who are thrilled to have the chance to learn and participate in the classroom environment. The students are active participants in a positive school environment that encourages all students to succeed, and they are held to a high level of standards.
My Project
Our shelves are in desperate need of more multicultural and social skills books. We do a lot of theme teaching in kindergarten and it is nice to have books to go along with the theme in the hands of the students. I can't wait to be able to have amazing discussions using books like Dream Big Dreams by Obama, We Don't Eat our Classmates by Ryan Higgins, & I am Enough by Grace Byers to name just a few. I want my bookshelves to encourage social justice and social justice leaders.

It is essential to have good literature in the classroom, so that students can read & escape into a story. Having good books will also improve students own writing and they will be excited to be an author and illustrator.
