My Students

Do you remember going to school and looking forward to reading your favorite books over and over again? My students desperately need more current and up to date literature for the classroom and you can help with just a small donation to Mrs. Hewitt's first grade project!

My students are from a high poverty urban part of Cleveland, Ohio.

Supplies and resources are very limited at our school and many of these students do not have access to literature in their homes. They are energetic, curious, motivated, helpful, and hard working little kiddos who would be so very grateful to have up to date literature and resources to help them learn on a daily basis.

My Project

We are requesting a couple of sets of books, one being a math stories set of books, which will help the students to enhance their reading and math skills. Math stories are particularly interesting to the students because it creates a sense of creating the story for them. They get to help determine the outcome and use their math skills while doing so. The first graders LOVE these math stories and it creates a fun way of adding and subtracting while also making their way through a story! We also need proper and easily accessible storage for the books which is where the book storage containers come into play.

My project is important because my students are wonderful little learners.

They are so sweet and get so excited about new things I bring into the classroom. We don't have a lot, I try my best to be creative and make my own resources and activities but writing books is something I don't have time to do so we need as man books as possible! The more kids read...the better readers they become!
