Books! Books! Books!

My students need high interest fiction novels, such as "The Bully," "The Fallen," "Just Another Hero" and "Romiette and Julio," to engage them during independent reading!

My Students

Have you ever seen a student pick up a book and beg you for more time to read? I have and it is one of the most amazing occurrences for a classroom teacher. Unfortunately, without the right novels these moments are far and few between.

My 55 students are 6th, 7th and 8th graders and are thirsty for knowledge.

They have set a goal for themselves to be the highest achieving middle school students in the District of Columbia! Our public school does not have the funds to buy my students the books that they are interested in.

My Project

My students need high interest fiction novels such as The Bully, The Fallen, and Romiette and Julio to engage them during independent reading! When these students are able to select books that they like, and that speak to them, an entire world changes. A student can go from being disengaged in the classroom to begging for more time to read their independent books. I strongly believe that reading opens doors and that is why I am requesting high interest fiction novels for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students.

Providing my students with these high interest books will allow them the opportunity to love reading.

If we can hook students on reading early enough, get them addicted to it, by the time they reach high school they will be set to take on the rigorous curriculum.
