My Students
I love teaching. My students are all wonderful and amazing individuals. They each bring a different challenge with them each day, from tough home lives to not knowing if they will be going home to an empty apartment after school to being academically higher than their grade. I love the chance to engage and connect with my students each day. I am always excited to see one of them every day, either online or in the classroom.
My goal as a teacher is to support them in their journey through life as they look to reach their goals.
They all come from diverse backgrounds and varied home lives. Some are brand new to the United States and some still feel new. Students at our school come from homes that speak a combined total of 23 different languages, and we are a district of 78 different languages spoken at home. These students also come from low-income households, and the school can sometimes be the only consistent thing in their life. A simple high-five and "glad to see you" each day brings smiles to each of them.
My Project
As my students have returned to the classroom this year, I have noticed they have missed having the opportunities to hold physical books in their hands. These graphic novels will continue to inspire them to become stronger readers.
Students are more willing to read a book if they are interested in the topic.
As new books are released and become available, it is not always the case that my students get the chance to read the latest Dog Man book or Diary of Wimpy Kid book, etc. I can't wait for these books to arrive and share them with my students this year.
