Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a kindergarten teacher in a public school in San Jose, California. My students are inquisitive 5 and 6 year olds who are starting to read. Our school district has mostly low income families who are struggling to get by. Most families do not have the funds to provide reading opportunities at home. My request is for take-home books. I would like to be able to send a book home with every student each week. Each student could read the book with their family. Parents can read to the children and when ready, the children can read to the parents. The students would bring back the book on Friday and then on Monday I would send a new book home with each student. Right now I do not have enough books on the students' level to be able to do this. I have high hopes for what my children can achieve and my wish is to give them every opportunity to learn while they are with me. Please help me to broaden these young minds with a classroom take home library full of learning and enjoyment opportunities. These books would be used by 2 kindergarten classes. It would benefit 40 students a year. They would last several years helping over 100 students. Thank you for your time and support.
