This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I've read this one, may I get another one? Do you have another book by this author? I love these characters! These are some of the conversations that my students have about books every day. These bilingual third graders are eager to learn and voraciously read everything available to them.

My students are smart, creative and outgoing.

However, they don't have the same opportunities as others their age. These group of students come from low income households that have been affected by Harvey. They are in need of the basics such as food and shelter, which there have been numerous donations to provide for them, but they also need to feed their minds and to keep reading.

My Project

I have always heard that you learn to read by reading. My students are avid readers that are always ready for more books. They get library books every two weeks and only two at a time. After visiting the library the first time this year, one of my students came back the next day and said: "I'm finished with these, I want more".

My students need more books in the classroom library to continue their independent reading.

By providing these books to my students, they will be able to achieve more reading, more learning, just more. They can become better students and higher level thinkers with more books.
