My students need a new classroom set of this wonderful Newbery Award Winning classic, "The Cricket In Times Square." The ones that we are currently using are being held together with tape and hope.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

My school is a Title I school in a rural area.
Our students are typically 2 grade levels behind - however - they are good kids who just need to be giving a chance to shine. Most of my students do not have access to "real" books in their homes. Our classroom sets travel home with them nightly so that they can spend the time that is needed to really delve into the story and get to know the characters.
My Project
In my class - the students learn through themed units that are centered around a main concept. Each of these units throughout the year have at least one classic novel that has stood the test of time. These stories are rich with text complexity as well as life lessons and together we explore and learn these. This particular unit deals with animal adaptations and in this particular novel the animals most adapt in order to survive in their environment.
Reading can make the difference for my children.
The difference between staying in the difficult life that they are in now - or - creating a new life that is better through gaining a good education.
