Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

At our Title I school in Texas, we believe that every student should have access to books that reflect their identities, experiences, and the world around them. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds, many of them facing financial barriers, but they all share a deep love for learning and a desire to see themselves represented in the stories they read.

We are seeking to expand our classroom library with diverse, culturally relevant books.

Additionally, we are requesting paper trays to help us organize and keep these new resources accessible to students. With your support, we can ensure that every child has the opportunity to explore, learn, and grow through the power of literature.

Representation in literature is a powerful tool for fostering racial justice and empathy. By introducing students to books that feature diverse characters, histories, and cultures, we help them understand the richness of the world around them and develop a sense of pride in their own identities. Having access to these books is especially important for students from underrepresented communities, as it helps them see themselves reflected in the stories they read.
