Books, Books, BOOKS! for Struggling Readers

The cost of 16 non-fiction books is $263, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Kass's classroom raised $300

This project is fully funded

I teach 7th grade students with special needs on the South Side of Chicago. Many of my students are struggling readers, who find reading difficult and boring. The school has 30 minutes of scheduled independent reading time every morning, but many of the students cannot take advantage of this opportunity because they can't find books they want to read. Many of the students do not have any books at home, and have to rely on the school's selection. I have selected 16 non-fiction books that students will love! Some of these books have been specifically requested by students; others are similar to the books that are generally in high demand. They discuss topics that 7th graders are curious about, particularly puberty. These books are sure to engage students in independent reading and discussions about their reading - when they like their book, they love to talk about it. With books they can't wait to read, students will look forward to and love reading. They will overcome some of their struggles with this motivation, and become better readers in the process. Thank you for giving this opportunity to the students who need it the most!
