This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a lovely group of First Graders. We are a Dual Language Class, which means that students are learning at least one language- we alternate between instruction in Spanish and English every other day. We are a Title I school, which means that many of our students come from low income families.

Many of my students do not have regular access to books that they want to read independently.

My Project

My amazing First Graders are just getting started on their journey to becoming life-long readers! Our classroom library needs a refresh to keep them excited about the joys of reading for pleasure! We need books at various levels, starring diverse characters, and in both of our classroom languages for these little readers to get excited about.

This collection of books will enable them to see themselves in books, read about some of their favorite characters, and read in both English and Spanish at their levels as they continue to grow their abilities and enjoyment of reading.
