My Students

Our Title I school is located in a very diverse neighborhood in Brooklyn. My students are 5 years-old. They are an enthusiastic and hard-working bunch. The spectrum of developmental levels in kindergarten is vast, and I am working hard to meet the needs of all my students. Many of my kindergarteners are growing up in low-income homes and do not have access to the learning materials at home needed to promote their academic growth.

Regardless of the challenges they face, my students are highly motivated and love coming to school.

They look forward to playing, making art, learning to read and all the other wonderful things the world of kindergarten has to offer.

My Project

Kindergarten is a magical year. In just 10 months my students grow from shy preschoolers into confident almost first-graders. I enjoy supporting them on this journey. My students are creative, playful and excited about learning to read. I am asking for a variety of high interest books for my growing readers: non-fiction books about animals, books about diverse families, and alphabet books. I am also asking for different pretend play materials, such as small dolls and play furniture for our block area. These materials will encourage more peer interaction and help develop essential language skills. My students are excited about different kinds of vehicles and enjoy building and creating. They will use Tegu and Lego wheels and their budding imagination to build cars, truck, trains and other vehicles. Thank you in advance for your generosity and care.
