Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a kindergarten teacher at a Title One school in a low-income, high-poverty school district where ninety-nine percent of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. These students overcome adversity every day when they simply walk through the classroom door.

My students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom, and yet, they are always excited to come to school each morning and are willing and ready to learn.

I love taking any opportunity to give my students what will help them be prepared and ready for the future.

Not all my students have enough books to read in the classroom and at home. About eighty percent of them have less than five books in their home libraries. Many of them are still learning to read. Throughout the day, especially during D.E.A.R., I would like my students to have a variety of books to select from. I believe that these requested books and journals will really help them. I feel these types of books will encourage my students to read, which will give them reading success, and in turn, heighten their self-esteem. Providing them with these books and journals will build their fluency and will help them meet their reading goals.
