Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in Concord, California in a low-income community. Students come from diverse backgrounds and cultures and all bring unique aspects to the school. A majority of the students are English Language Learners. About 90% of the students who attend this school receive free or reduced rate lunch.

In my first grade classroom, I will strive to create an inclusive classroom community, which allows each student to feel safe, accepted and needed.

I know students will love engaging in picture books. Getting diverse books will allow them to do so will motivate them to work hard, be fully engaged in the content and allow them to develop a love for reading.

My Project

All of these picture books will give my students exposure to all kinds of literature. The development of literacy is so important for first graders. My goal is to read all types of literature to my students so they can become life long readers.

My first graders need books that are engaging and diverse to help develop a love for reading.

This set of books will give my students the opportunity to learn about different cultures and communities and build a foundation of literacy for rest of their lives.
