My Students

Many of the students in my classroom have experienced trauma in their lives, and school is their safe place. They come to school to escape what is happening at home. My classroom serves students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder, and specific learning disabilities.

The typical student in my class struggles with basic phonemic awareness and letter recognition.

About 90% of my students are African American or Latino. The opportunity and achievement gaps are apparent among our student population.

My Project

I am requesting books for my classroom. And lots of books! I want to give my students the best classroom library possible. I want to give them books that they have never seen before. I want to give them stories that they can't wait to read. I want my students to have lots of variety and choices when they go to the classroom library.

My hope is that they choose to go to the library every day because they are so excited about the new, colorful, vibrant stories that are provided for them.

We have already learned how to handle books, now I want to give them the best books to read each day!
