Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a vibrant group of 1st graders from Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. They are a group of hard-working, talented and energetic students that love to come to school. They are constantly asking questions, exploring and making sense of the world around them, all while learning a second language.

My students love to sing, dance, laugh, and express their learning.

Something that we pride ourselves at our school is the joyful learning happening in all classrooms! What we may lack in resources we try our best to give our students other opportunities to learn and grow.

My Project

“Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” – Margaret Fuller

Fostering a love for reading and books from the foundational years is key!

Our classroom needs a complete library where children of all reading levels have opportunities to have access to diverse types of books, and fall in love with reading. Increasing a child's love of reading will impact their self-confidence and willingness to read new books. I am certain that a variety of books in the classroom will have a great impact on their vocabulary, reading fluency and comprehension. In the early years of school students learn to read so that they can read to learn. Thanks to these books, students will be able to take books home between school and home and continue to practice at home as well.

As the quote says, today we are building leaders and tomorrow they will be the leaders of our communities and society. You can contribute to fostering their love for reading!
