Books, Bins, and Belonging

Help me give my students new biography books that reflect their identities and cultures. By genrefying and updating our collection,, and then organizing it with bright yellow bins, students will be drawn to read about amazing lives.

My Project

Our students deserve to have themselves reflected in the stories they read. Our current biography section is outdated and rarely used. By updating it with engaging, high-interest biographies of women, Native American, African American, Hispanic American, and Asian American leaders, students will see the power of real people who look like them and also learn about those who don’t. This fosters both identity and empathy.

Our school community is beautifully diverse, and our students deserve a library that reflects that.

These new books will help them explore a wide range of experiences, perspectives, and accomplishments that mirror the real world.

To support this transformation, we are also genrefying our biography section and organizing it with bright yellow bins to create a more welcoming, browsable space. When books are visible and easy to find, students are far more likely to explore, discover, and

This project will impact over 400 students in Kindergarten through 4th grade, encouraging curiosity, cultural understanding, and confidence. With this refreshed collection and layout, our library will become a place where every child finds inspiration—and maybe even sees what’s possible for their own future.
