My Project

As our fifth-grade students continue their journey of learning and growth, we are seeking your support to provide each of them with a personal copy of A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, a powerful story that fosters empathy, resilience, and a deeper understanding of global challenges. Just as our shared reading of The Toothpaste Millionaire sparked discussions about ingenuity and resourcefulness, we hope A Long Walk to Water will open our students' eyes to the realities faced by others and inspire them to appreciate the interconnectedness of our world.

Reading A Long Walk to Water will offer our students a window into the lives of Nya and Salva, allowing them to walk alongside these compelling characters as they navigate immense obstacles.

This immersive experience will encourage critical thinking about issues of survival, perseverance, and the importance of access to basic human needs.

The book's dual narratives, set in different time periods in Sudan, will provide rich opportunities for discussions about history, geography, and the human spirit. Our students' engagement with Nya's daily struggle for water and Salva's arduous journey as a Lost Boy will undoubtedly foster compassion and a desire to learn more about the world beyond their own experiences.

By investing in a copy of A Long Walk to Water for each student, you will be providing more than just a book—you will be offering a profound opportunity for perspective-taking and the development of global citizenship.
