Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every student deserves to have a book to take home for the summer.
The kindergarten students come into school every day eager to learn something new.
We are one of five kindergarten classrooms in a Title I school with close to 600 students. The majority of my students are English language learners who need additional materials to support learning new vocabulary and skills simultaneously.
Many people have said that our school is a hidden treasure, and for that reason it can be difficult to locate. Because we are tucked into a small neighborhood, we do not receive as much community support to fund classroom needs as we need. Many of our teachers purchase items independently or seek funding for materials.
My Project
The students have a love of reading and we want it to continue into the summer. Providing a take-home book is one way to promote summer reading. Current research shows the importance of reading 20 minutes a day for all students. Sending home a book as part of this project will help them maintain their reading skills.
I have requested fifty copies of the book, Quick as a Cricket and fifty copies of the book, In the Tall, Tall Grass.
Your donation gives my students an opportunity to continue reading while on summer break.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my project to know how important these books will be to the kindergarten students at the school.
