My Students
I am the Reading Specialist for our elementary school. This means I get to spend each day teaching 160 fourth and fifth-grade readers in one of the best rural schools in Oklahoma! My students are a diverse group with varied levels of learning. Our classroom is a space where students enjoy coming to learn. We are a Title I school with the majority of our students receiving free lunches. Many of my students are enrolled in virtual distance learning this year, while others are attending full-time in person.
These students have huge hearts and love to learn in non-traditional ways including room transformations, arts-integrated lessons, and project-based learning.
My students have curiosity, creativity, compassion, and positive attitudes. They are truly amazing people. My school is wonderfully supportive of the active hands-on learning that we do in our classroom. I couldn't ask for a better learning environment for these students. We are truly a community!

Reading books allows children to stimulate their imagination and expand their understanding of the world.
Reading also helps them develop language and listening skills and be informed about other people, other countries, other customs and cultures. Books strengthen our self-confidence and help us to understand why we are who we are. They help us discover where we come from and help us figure out where we want to go.
The books we have chosen are high interest books that will engage my students and help them become life long readers. The series books will allow them to keep coming back for more!
