My students need fun, interesting and engaging books. I am moving with my kids from 2nd to 3rd grade. They worked hard in 2nd grade and now they need more challenging books!
I teach in one of the most diverse zip codes in the United States. My kids are mostly students of color with a large first and second generation American population. Our school is also a very socioeconomically diverse community. We have a school wide emphasis on the whole child. We emphasize social emotional learning as well as academic learning.
My students are very insightful, creative and engaged in their learning.
They have vivid imaginations and love to ask questions about the world around them. They love to engage in art projects, puzzle through interesting and challenging math problems using a variety of strategies and learn about their culture and community.
My classroom is a place where students are encouraged to explore their learning in a supportive community. We love to read books that reflect our own experiences and characters that mirror our own lives as well as those that stretch our imaginations! We love to share our thinking with one another and are always stretching and growing our brains!
My Project
These books will allow my 3rd graders to have the opportunity to choose high interest and engaging books. My classroom library is the central hub of our classroom. These high interest books will encourage students to make the most out of their independent reading time by holding their attention. I have also chosen books that will meet students at their independent reading level to assist them in making meaning and improving their literacy skills and strategies. Putting the right books in my students hands will cultivate a love of reading! Thank you for your help in creating a fun and exciting reading experience for my students!
