This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
All of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. Many are minorities from one-parent homes or from non English speaking homes. They do not have the means to purchase school supplies, clothing, and, most importantly, food. Basic needs like safety and consistency are rarely established before coming to school. Most kids struggle to trust adults, and education is not their top priority.
I want my students to want to learn and to believe in their ability to be successful. Thank you for considering my room.
My Project
Books are a necessary and crucial part of education, yet libraries are underfunded and are full of outdated materials. It is time to change that!
We need books to build future readers and learners! With a high turnover of students, many times books are lost. Replenishing the library has been a challenge, but we are hoping through DonorsChoose.org that our kiddos will have access to a wide variety of books. Teachers will have access to quality texts that support standards and learning goals as well.
Every day a child should read. For this to happen, we have to provide quality literature that inspires them and grows their imaginations. Books help students see their future possibilities. Thank you for your consideration!
