My Students

My class is composed of 17 adorable, creative children. I am so blessed to see their inquisitive little minds at work daily. Our classroom is full of energy & innovation. I hope to give each and every one of my students a loving, safe environment to learn!

I teach 2nd grade at a Title I school in Texas, where we are still recovering for the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey.

These students lived through a rough 1st grade year due to the Hurricane in 2017. However, my students are resilient & eager to learn. Many of these children lost everything in the storm, are still displaced, & unfortunately lacking basic necessities, but they show up every morning trying their best to smile. My students are survivors & they deserve the best.

My Project

My little people LOVE to read, but unfortunately our classroom library is not well stocked with books! My class only gets to visit the school library once a week for 30 minutes. Sadly, that is just not enough time for them to soak up all the wonderful things that books have to offer.

I would love to see my students be able to pull a nice, new book off the shelf of our classroom library & really enjoy their time reading!

I have spent lots of time digging through garage sales, thrift shops, & used book shops trying to fill my classroom library. However, there is nothing like the feel & smell of a brand new book!

Many of my students started their second grade year not being able to read. I have seen them improve SO MUCH, so quickly! It is vital to keep building their reading fluency by having them practice every day in class. It's the best feelings in the world to watch their little faces light up when they find a book they love & can read it themselves!
