Celebrating Black History Month

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

Stephen King said, " Books are uniquely portable magic."

I am the proud teacher of 62 sixth grade literature and writing students who are quickly becoming phenomenal readers.

My students are a mix of avid readers and reluctant readers who are looking for the right book to spring them into a passion for reading. My students are becoming better readers every day. They are great at suggesting books to other students to read and are building a fabulous reading community!

My Project

Books are an integral part of every literature class. Our class uses books every day to become better readers by studying characters, settings, and themes. It is so much more fun to do this kind of work when the students can choose books that are interesting to them.

While we have a wonderful school library, my goal is to create a great classroom library filled with books that will inspire even the most reluctant reader to peruse the shelves.

This will help the students be out of the classroom less searching for books and in the room more reading books.
