Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Remember the first book that you fell in love with? How exciting it was to get lost in the characters! It was hard not to quit thinking about the book. What a way to learn how to love reading. The students in our classroom love reading and learning.
The students in our classroom are very active students -- they love to learn!
We are a large diverse group, yet everyone enjoys reading. These fifth graders are required to read thirty minutes each school day, but most of them read seven days a week. They are enjoying trying to read "40" books this year. We want them to succeed. As they read, it is important that they experience books from all of the different genres that are in the library. Once they read, they begin summarizing the books by preparing book reports. They enjoy coming prepared and telling the rest of the class about the great books they found to read.
My Project
The materials in this project are simple. We are requesting copies of the novel "Among the Hidden" so that every student in our room has their own copy for our reading of the novel. In addition, we are requesting two other books that will introduce our students to important male and female historical characters. Once a year they get the opportunity to be part of our school's History Fair. These books will help with that fun school project. In order to get prepared for the History Fair, we are requesting colored copy paper. The students need to have the resources available to make appealing book reports and history fair boards. And a final request for this project is two boy's bathroom passes! It might seem like a weird request, but it is a necessity for our classroom.
Your help with funding this project will be appreciated.
Because of your generosity, we will have books and paper available to all of the students in our classroom. Most of our students come from homes that have limited funds available for extras. Once this project gets funded, the students will have the items needed to create book reports and to get ready for our history fair.
