Books and Magazines, We Need Them!

My students need decodable books and magazines to broaden and strengthen our reading skills.

My Students

My class is filled with kindergartners who are eager to learn. We have 10 boys and 1 girls, ages range from 4-5. We are a diverse group all residing in Tempe and Mesa Arizona. Some have what they need and some lack the necessities. We are part of a Title 1 school meaning most of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. We enjoy dancing, singing and moving when we learn. We like to learn using hands-on materials and the latest technology.

My Project

We need BOB Books... Our school does not provide decodable books for our students. Decodable books are crucial in kindergarten reading because students can use phonics to decode unfamiliar words. Without decodable books, students become frustrated and start guessing words, a strategy we highly discourage if we want them to be fluent readers. BOB Books are especially perfect for our classroom because they go from simple to complex, meaning each set of books will reach each and every child in our classroom.

Magazines, a type of media that is new and exciting!

We would also love weekly magazines. Scholastic Magazines provide opportunities for new learning that isn't necessarily built into our curriculum but are vastly needed. These weekly magazines will touch on social studies, science, reading, math and social development. These fun and exciting magazines will be used each week during whole group instruction during our respective science and social studies learning blocks.
