Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a kindergarten teacher at a school with students from many low income families. As brand new students, my class will be learning values and social skills as well as reading, writing and math.
I would like my students to send a classroom care package consisting of books and school supplies to Katrina victims. The class will help to package the books and supplies, and we will send photos and cards to the recipients explaining why we are sending them. Giving books, in addition to classroom supplies, will reinforce for beginning readers how central reading is to learning. The books requested have won the Caldecott Medal for children's literature. With the help of Donors Choose, my class can have an active lesson in empathy and generosity and help those in need.
