This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is an SDC (special day class) special ed classroom for students with mild to moderate disabilities. Many of my students are Autistic and need modified curriculum and teaching strategies to meet their needs.

My special education students are also in an extremely low income area and many are also English Learners.

They have a lot to overcome and special resources go a long way to helping students achieve their goals. Unfortunately our classroom budgets have to go toward essentials like paper, pencils and glue and their is no money for enrichment. That is where generous donors like you are able to help bridge the gap.

My Project

My students love to hear stories and these books can be utilized in several different ways. Some higher level Autistic students can practice reading skills, while others can learn to relate to the world through books. English learners are able to develop language skills through reading comprehension activities. The blocks can be used to develop fine motor skills and are so engaging that they can be used as a part of an incentive program to encourage positive behavior and effort.

These books and blocks will be used to help a very sweet group of special education students to access curriculum and make progress toward their personal goals in a highly engaging way.
