This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school in North Philadelphia. We are a k-8 public school. I would like to bring books into the classroom that the students can relate to. My students come from various backgrounds and I would like to bring in as many books as I can from different types of authors. I would also like to incorporate into my classroom more art based assessments to give students multiple outlets for expressing their knowledge. I believe that multi-modal education is the best way to meet the needs of the most students.

My Project

The class set of "The Diary of a Part Time Indian" will be the first book in our English Unit. The best part about this book is it covers issues around race and poverty in a book that captivates young students. This book will be read by 100 students each year. The Howard Zinn books are to complete a class set that has lost some books over the years. These books will be used by students to analyze American history.

The art supplies will be used for various projects in class.

Our classrooms often lack basic art supplies so having plenty of large paper, crayon, and colored pencils will greatly improve our student's resources for creating wonderful projects.
