Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When I get up in front of my class to teach a math lesson, I am sure most of them hear Blah, Blah, Blah... Teaching math through literature is such a fun and exciting way to motivate my students to pay attention and learn the material.

I have 25 students in my class, 14 of which are English language learners.

My students are from a Title One school. Most of them are from economically disadvantages family and are on free or reduced lunch. Even though they face economic challenges, they still come to school ready to learn new things.

My Project

Math can be very intimidating and monotonous to English language learners. It can be difficult to stay motivated to learn the math concepts. Literature is a great way to teach math concepts such as counting by 2, 5, and 10, measurement, graphing, and telling time. It keeps the kids engaged and interested. And, with the new common core standards, it incorporates a different teaching and learning strategy. The book display case will help entice the kids to read books. The books will be facing forward and easily accessible for the kids to grab. Bookshelves make grabbing books hard for little 6 year old fingers.

Please consider donating to my project.

The math books will help me teach 1st grade math concepts. They will also keep my students motivated. The book display case will help organize the books and entice them to read.
