My students have never ceased to amaze me, in and out of the classroom. Their drive to succeed not only gives them motivation, but it pushes me to be the best teacher I can be for my students. Although many of my students come from a low economic background where many are raised by single parents, grandparents, and other relatives, they don't let this hinder them in the classroom; they use this as a driving motivational force to succeed. Looking at my students as individuals, they in turn, make a whole classroom that is full of character, life, and inspiration. This is hard to fathom when thinking about second graders, but it is true. They truly have a life that is worth more than many of them think, and I hope as their teacher, I am able to foster this and make each of my students feel successful and loved. I continually remind my students throughout the year that I have three jobs: first is to love them, the second is to protect them, and the third is to teach them.
My Project
This technology will be beneficial to my class to increase the amount of academic learning of each individual student in my class. There are a couple of ways this technology will be used in my classroom to promote success.
A reading program is implemented in our school where students are to read and take a comprehension test over fiction and non-fiction books.
Students earn individual points for each question they answer correctly, which can put them into a 10, 25, 50 and 100+point club where incentives are given. Not only does this encourage students to read, it also promotes good competition between classmates and grade levels. Students are allowed to take 2 tests daily. With having only 1 iPad for a group of 24 students to take tests on, it makes it difficult for some students to ever get a chance to take test regularly.
Chromebooks will also be used to help struggling students in certain academic areas, such as math, reading, and language. Interactive games will be used to give students an extra push. This will not take the place of classroom instruction, but will be used during supplemental and enrichment times.
The Chromebooks will be used for various purposes, with all of these purposes promoting success for my students. Not only will they have classroom instruction, but they will also have academic learning.
