Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
To give you a glimpse into my students’ learning experience, I’d like to share a moment from my classroom. Recently, my students were tasked with recreating a scene from their novel through coding. As I conferred with one student about his chosen scene, he explained that he selected it because it felt relatable—it reflected situations that happen all the time in our society. The rest of his group immediately chimed in, agreeing with him.
That was an aha moment for me.
It reinforced the idea that real learning happens when students can connect classroom content to their everyday lives.
This experience underscored the importance of filling my classroom library with high-interest books—stories that resonate with my students and inspire them to engage deeply with literature. Mastery of content doesn’t come from lectures alone. We can talk to students until we’re blue in the face, but true learning only happens when they see the value and relevance of what we teach.
My goal this year is to have my students booked and busy—immersed in books that challenge, inspire, and reflect their world. I’m hoping you can help make this possible.
