My Students

Our district is the lowest funded district in our county. Our students come from diverse populations and speak over 20 different languages. Ten percent of our student body is identified as Special Education. Our students come from varying socioeconomic backgrounds. Our students are a representation of our community. We work to create equal learning opportunities for all of our students. Our graduates attend Ivy League schools, University of California schools, state schools, community college, vocational skills, enlist in the military, and get employment within our community.

Our library is built on serving the diverse needs of our community.

We strive to have books for every student and have books from all over the world. Currently my non-fiction section is is dusty and out of date. When I took over the library 4 years ago, I started weeding books that were older than I am (I am 47 for the record) and trying to update our factual books so that our students could learn accurate history.

My Project

My library is a great place to be. It is becoming the center of the school. Students from all walks of life come here and hang out during brunch and lunch. I have books for all of my students. I have worked hard to create a diverse collection.

My students have NO idea that I have the perfect book for them in my library because I don't have enough display areas and shelving.

I want to promote literacy and put books in every students hands, but this is difficult when they have no clue as to what you have. These book trees would allow me to show off all the different books and to change out books for different events.
