Book Tasting for Change: Supporting Animal Conservation
My students need a variety of books about animals, vinyl sheets, art markers, cutting tools, a Cricut Explore machine, and a heat press.

My Students
I am a National Board certified teacher in Literacy. I work at a Title I elementary school. Many of my students come from military families due to our location near several bases. Our school is diverse with learning styles, cultures, and interests. My students are hardworking, creative, critical thinkers. My students are future artists, inventors, authors, and natural leaders. Success is at their fingertips; I know that with the right learning environment, I will nurture each and every one of them.
My Project
I requested books that have strong messages about the impact that humans have on animals. The Autobiography of a Stray will be used to study the experiences of a dog touched with gentle hands by humans to experiencing the harsher side of mankind. This book will be used to shed light on the importance of supporting the local animal shelters. The variety of books will be used as part of a book tasting experience. Students will read about animal activists such as Jane Goodall and what she is doing to support chimpanzees.
Student will learn the importance of giving voice to those who cannot speak themselves.
As a final project ,students will use the Cricut machine to design a gameboard that brings awareness for compassion of animals. Students will design pieces using the vinyl that is tied to the animals they read about in the books requested. With the design of the game, students will be able to play while learning about the impact we have on animals near and far.
