Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at a Title I, performance improvement school with the majority of our students participating in the free lunch program. My students are inquisitive and they love to learn; they inspire my teaching every day! My students work hard and they inspire me to do my best to help get them ready for higher learning.

I love teaching my students in person, but COVID-19 has impacted how this is happening this school year.

Despite this, in-person has been great! My students have been hard at work to transition back to learning in the classroom after being remote for over a year. They have also been working hard to build on their skills to support their 4th grade learning so they are ready for 5th grade.

My Project

Moving grades (from teaching 2nd to 4th grade this year) means upgrading our classroom library--new picture books, more chapter books, and soon we will receive a collection of TOON graphic novels that was funded by Donors Choose donors over the holidays! We love books because we love to read, but we have nowhere to store them where my students can easily select books to read.

Our books need a home; A Flex-Space Book Center and bins will help organize our books and give my students easy access to our classroom library books.

Creating an inviting space to read where books are easy to select is key ingredient in helping to foster a love of reading in my students. This project will help us achieve this goal.
