My second graders need 70 books from 9 sets of book series including Clifford, Minnie and Moo, and Horrible Harry.

I teach second grade in Brooklyn, New York. In order to become better readers, second graders need to read independently for 30-40 minutes a day. The books they are reading have to provide just the right kinds of supports and challenges in order for children to become fluent and thoughtful readers. But most importantly, the children need the kinds of books that will be interesting and engaging. The books that will encourage them to read more and make them fall in love with reading. Book series is what my second graders need!
Children enjoy reading books with familiar characters. Carefully selected selected 9 sets of book series will provide a great support to my second graders. For example, such series as Henry and Mudge, Poppleton, Fox and Mr. Putter and Tabby have wonderful illustrations that closely mirror simple yet interesting plots. These series will be great for newly independent readers. Other book series on the list, such as Cam Jansen and Nate the Great, would be appealing to the children who love mysteries and can handle more advance texts.
Each set contains 6-7 books with the same main characters. After I will read aloud one title in a series to the whole class, the children will be hooked into reading other titles independently. They will want to know more about the characters and their adventures. And that will set them on their way to becoming fluent readers.
The series will be displayed in our classroom library. The children will be free to borrow the books from the series they like. The more book series our classroom library will have the more choices the children will have.
There are 28 children in my classroom, and unfortunately there aren't any series sets. By donating these books to our classroom, you will be giving many children the wonderful gift of reading. Imagine the excitement of second graders once they see the new books in their classroom library!
